Launched qbuntu — the honest scorecard for quant strategies
On August 11, 2026, First Mind, Inc. launched qbuntu, a database that records the results of quantitative investment strategy research honestly. Built as our flagship product, it holds 111 strategies, 3,294 experiments, and 626 facts at launch. Reading is entirely free.
Background — the published record is all winners
Information about investment strategies skews heavily toward what worked. Strategies that produced good backtest results are covered again and again, while the strategies that failed, the ones that fall apart under slightly different conditions, and the ones that never reproduced in live trading go largely unpublished.
In practice, though, passing a backtest and actually making money are two different things. The information that closes that gap — the record of what didn't work — did not exist anywhere as an organized public body of work. qbuntu was built to fill that gap.
What qbuntu does
- A verdict on every strategy — live (worth running) / promising / marginal / rejected. We do not publish only the flattering results.
- Headline figures are the median across the grid — the representative number is the median over the full parameter grid, never the best-case run.
- The reasoning is published too — why a strategy is marginal, why it was rejected (regime dependence, no edge, and so on), alongside the backtest conditions and methodology.
- Reading is always free — verdicts, facts, distributions, and methodology are published in full, with no login.
- Built to be read by AI — every page has a machine-readable mirror (Markdown / JSON), plus permanent per-fact citation URLs, llms.txt, and a machine-readable schema, so AI agents can cite the record with its evidence attached.
- Japanese and English — coverage centers on Japanese and U.S. (S&P 500) equities, and extends to FX and other asset classes.
Coverage at launch
- Strategies: 111 (across 65 categories)
- Experiments (backtest runs): 3,294
- Facts (individually citable): 626
- Per-stock analyses: 1,978 tickers
What comes next
Alongside continued expansion of the corpus, we are preparing paid plans that include an AI strategy-analysis chat and API / data access. Paid tiers will gate depth, write access, and ads — never the content itself. Details will be announced on the qbuntu plans page.
